February 20, 2013: While discussions regarding the envisioned Transatlantic Free Trade Area (TAFTA) agreement continue, businessmen on the Turkish side are concerned over the possible side effects of the deal on Turkey-US trade relations, questioning if the deal would benefit or harm Turkish commercial activity with the US.

The TUSKON package submitted to the minister on Saturday, May 8, 2010 seeks to find a solution to Turkey’s unemployment problem with 22 different articles. A delegation headed by Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and 30 businessmen from the Turkish Federation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) has returned to Turkey following a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. The Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) opened an office in Washington yesterday at a ceremony attended by Economy Minister Mehmet Şimşek as well as some of the economy's top bureaucrats, who were already in the US to attend the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Board of Governors Meeting.

Turkey’s business reform means more businesses have been created, according to “Doing Business 2008,” the fifth in an annual report series issued by the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) on Sept. 26, 2007.

Countries within Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union saw the most reforms in 2006-07, along with a large group of emerging markets, including China and India. The business world has voiced resounding approval of Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül's presidential candidacy, calling it the natural consequence of democracy in the country and pointing to the July election results.

The Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) hosted a delegation that included members of the US Congress and their staff members in İstanbul yesterday.

TUSKON Deputy Chairman Ahmet Ciğer, gave a speech at the meeting in which he noted that there was great commercial potential between the two countries. “Despite fluctuating political relations, commercial affairs will always prevail and be permanent,” Ciğer said.

Economy Minister and chief EU negotiator Ali Babacan inagurated the Brussels office of the Confederation of Businesmen and Industrialists of Turkiye (TUSKON) on Thursday.

Babacan described the symbolic importance of TUSKON opening a Brussels office. He said it showed the contributions that Turkish businessmen had made to the EU accession process. He said that Brussels was an important hub for Turkish entrepreneurs, much like İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir. The Turkish businessmen and industrialists confederation has organized a Turkish-African trade summit during the 16-18 of May, held in Istanbul. Over 1000 foreign delegates have attended the summit, including 32 high officials from African countries, and 27 businessmen from Yemen.

As the economy keeps growing and depending on foreign trade, Turkish businessmen are seeking to establish strong footholds in international markets to preserve this upward trend.
